How we came to be

PulseHosting was founded in March 2003 by two members of the web hosting community.

Back before we founded PulseHosting we had our own websites and had been customers of a handful of different hosts over the years (we won't name them here, since they probably won't appreciate the bashing).

During that time we were shocked and appalled at their general suckiness and high degrees of incompetence, not to mention the high prices we were paying for what was supposed to be 'class leading' support.

So, after many hours of head scratching and pondering over our situation, we made a decision. We'd start a hosting company of our very own. And this hosting company would be a proper host. It would have enough support staff to deal with the support queries generated by customers, it would have proper back-up and redundancy facilities incase of calamity, and most importantly, it would talk to it's customers, and it's customers would be able to talk to it. Also, we were quite keen on keeping the cost of the hosting as low as possible.

What makes us different

Honesty is our most important policy. If we have a problem, we'll be the first to tell you. Nothing used to annoy us more than finding out our websites were having issues and the host in question simply answering our support query with a canned "we're aware of an issue and are working on it" response.

So, if anything does go wrong, we'll always tell you exactly what the issue is, what we're doing to correct it, and how long we think that's likely to take. If it's an issue that affects all our customers we'll make an announcement on the status page as soon as we know about it.

A different approach to charging

As former web host customers ourselves, we know how annoying it can be to go ever-so-slightly over the limit on some allowance or other and get charged through the nose for it. So, if your site gets a sudden spike in traffic one week, or tips over it's diskspace allowance another week, we won't just automatically send you a big nasty bill, and we won't turn off your website. What we'll do is get a real person to take a look at your account, and if it was a one off thing then we'll just congratulate you on your stunning levels of popularity and leave it at that. If you happen to be ridiculously popular on a regular basis, then we'll come to some sort of an arrangement about extra capacity.

How do we keep the costs down?

It's no secret that we're proud of the control panel we use. One of the reasons we love HELM so much, is that it allows the customer (that's you!) to control almost any aspect of their site themselves. This means that our support staff don't spend lots of time doing the everyday tweaks that alot of other hosts have to do manually. We also automate a whole bunch of our behind the scenes processes, which saves us even more time. Saving all this time saves us money, and we pass those savings on to you.

Want more?

We know that your idea of what's important in a host might be different from ours, so if you just have to know what colour socks we wear, or what music we listen to in the office, then just get in contact with us. We'll answer any questions you might have.
